While their father, Michael Kalmar, remains in a Siberian prison, political refugees Ivan and Irma Kalmar seek freedom in Winnipeg, Canada. However, they continue to encounter persecution at the hands of prejudiced neighbors, and from their father's enemy, Makaroff.
