This film came about as a part of a Defa series on pop bands from the former East Bloc. "Berlin" resurrects Alexanderplatz as a colorful, noisy world of Arborpip Roast, Ulsterknöppen and piss-shacks. The soundtrack by DDR jazz pioneer Günther Fischer is inviting: "Come, come to the city, the Lindentrees are so green today. Let's go to the city, the city". Uwe Belz, born in 1937, completed training as an optician and photographer. After working as a television cameraman in the GDR, he studied film at the College of Film and Television in East Germany, and later worked primarily as a documentary director at Defa Studios. In 2002 Belz died in Berlin.
