“I dare, I dare what you don’t dare.” With these words eleven year old Lieke invites her friend Milad to come and play on a deserted building site where children are not allowed. It is their secret rendezvous, and Lieke and Milad have been friends for a long time. Milad fled from Iran with his family when he was very young. Lieke lives alone with her mother. Her father, a musician who led a wild life, had left a long time ago, and Lieke’s mother won’t tell her anything about him. The only thing that Lieke knows is that her father lives in Brussels. Lieke and Milad’s world falls apart when Milad learns that his parents have to return to Iran. Their application for asylum has been rejected. Lieke and Milad’s classmates decide to protest and Lieke herself tries to talk to the minister and attract the attention of a journalist. None of this helps. But on the day of repatriation Milad escapes, and it becomes imperative that Milad and Lieke now prove that they really are daring. Followed by the police they try to walk and hitchhike their way to Brussels.
