Oskar Brüsewitz was a highly active protestant pastor who set up a protestant youth movement in his parish. In 1976, he placed a sign on the side of his car which read “The Church in the GDR accuses communism! Because of the suppression of children at school”, then doused himself in petrol and committed self-immolation.
