Giorgio Bianchi directed this Italian-French co-production about the end of the second world war, and how it affects the citizens of a small town in Southern Italy. Fernandel and Gino Cervi are the patriarchs of two of the town's outstanding families, and about to see their clans united in the marriage of their children. With the Germans gone, they are also beginning to re-organize the town, but then a local fascist decides to call things back to order, and brings a squad of fascist soldiers to the town. A number of intrigues and humorous situations follow from these new conflicts of interest in the town. Sergio Leone is said to have directed a few scenes in the film without credit
