It's usually hearing people who produce research, books, movies about the Deaf. If given the opportunity, what would Deaf people say about their lives, feelings and experiences? I am a Deaf woman, yet Deaf history has not been told to me. I met Deaf women, and I asked them to tell me their life story. They attended the first and only school prior to 1973 (closing year) that welcomed Deaf girls in Quebec and New Brunswick. Since 1851, Sisters of Providence directed the Institut des Sourdes-Muettes de Montreal (Montreal Deaf-Mute Institute). These generations of women share a common history and a common language. They have told me their stories and now they are telling you.
