Constance Lorne was born Constance Margaret MacLaurin in Peebles, Scotland. Her twin, George Wishart MacLaurin, was born 10 minutes later. Their father was a woollen manufacturer. Constance Lorne was the second cousin once removed to Sir Charles Mackerras.
